That distinction is critical when reviewing vintage equipment. It’s important to keep in mind that you are evaluating both the original specifications against the current condition of a component and on an individual basis.

What to Know Before Buying Vintage Equipment

A vintage receiver should be evaluated and reviewed more carefully than a new amplifier. Cosmetic condition is important, but internal health matters more. Begin by checking whether both channels operate consistently through all inputs. Listen for static, intermittent sound, distortion, channel imbalance, and/or hum.
