AVM - Rotation 2.3 - MK2 Turntable
The Rotation 2.3 MK2 is a huge leap forward for audiophile AVM turntables, featuring a specially developed AVM 9″ tonearm. The R 2.3 boasts numerous detailed improvements, including significantly enhanced internal damping to further shift the tonearm’s natural frequency outside of the audible spectrum for even more true-to-life sound. New manufacturing methods allow the tonearm bearings of the R 2.3 to have still less play compared to the MK1 model. The motor control was also extensively revised and works even more precisely than in the original version.
The R 2.3 is a compact belt-drive turntable that comes complete with AVM’s own 9” gimbal-mounted, medium-mass tonearm, able to accommodate a wide range of cartridges. The high-density composite plinth is wrapped in brushed silver or black aluminum, creating a solid, inert structure, topped by an acrylic dust cover.
As you can see from the measured speed accuracy and consistency, this table spins at the correct speed, and its consistency rivals that of far more expensive turntables. As the measurements indicate, the design and execution [of the spindle itself and the permanently lubricated bronze bushing in which it rides] are precise, of very high quality, and contribute to the table's impressive speed consistency.
AVM appears to have put considerable effort into the gimbaled-bearing aluminum tonearm which features an impressively massive yoke and what feel like low-tolerance, high-quality bearings. The 9" arm's effective length is 230mm, with a spindle-to-pivot distance of 212mm, which results in an 18mm overhang. AVM's R 2.3 strikes me as a well-designed and built, well-performing, sexy-looking turntable. The R 2.3 certainly performs well enough to communicate how sonically satisfying vinyl can be."
Michael Fremer, Stereophile Class B Recommended Component, November 2020
Three touch-switches select on/off, 33, or 45 rpm speeds; the DC motor is servo-controlled to ensure speed accuracy. A heavy aluminum sub-platter is topped by an acrylic platter which can be illuminated by blue LEDs; that feature can be dimmed or shut off completely. The R 2.3 weighs in at a solid 26 pounds.
Visually, the resonance-free acrylic dust cover known from the R 5.3 has also been adopted in the Rotation 2.3 MK2. In addition, you can now enhance your listening space with the R 2.3 MK2’s brand-new RGB turntable lighting. The included remote gives you complete control over the ambiance, allowing you to easily set the perfect color, dim the light, or turn it off for the ultimate personalized listening experience.
With AVM’s combined expertise in both disciplines, we as a German high-end manufacturer complete our expansive portfolio with exquisite analog signal sources to perfectly match our wide range of audiophile masterpieces. All AVM turntables are equipped with tonearms specially designed by AVM and feature a variety of technical refinements. As a result, the first turntables in the company’s history were developed in-house and became AVM’s very own contribution to the renaissance of the beloved vinyl record.
“The late turntables debut of AVM with two bull’s-eyes: The R 2.3 and the R 5.3 convince visually, technically and sonically in every respect.”
