ATC - SCM50PT SL - Tower Series 9" 3-Way Passive Tower Speakers (Pair)
The SCM50PT SL tower is designed to offer exceptional performance and enjoyment to the home hi-fi enthusiast and music lover.
The monitors’ ability to reproduce music and speech with phenomenal accuracy, transparency and dynamics lies mainly in the SM75-150S soft dome midrange driver. However, recent modifications that include the new ATC SH25-76S tweeter and enhanced port profile have brought about further improvements to all performance parameters.
Each drive unit in the active model has its own dedicated and individually matched MOS-FET amplifier, while the 234mm (9.21") bass driver incorporates ATC’s unique Super Linear Magnet technology. Our active crossover network consists of a wide band-width, electronically balanced input stage with high common mode rejection and very low distortion.
Like the HF, mid and bass drivers, all electronics are designed and manufactured in-house to create a no-compromise active system. In passive form, the SCM50PSLT provides broad and symmetrical dispersion, excellent amplitude and phase characteristics throughout the frequency range.
Manufactured in house to exacting tolerances, ATC’s drivers are legendary for their many design innovations. For instance, our hand-wound short voice coils use only high density edge wound flat OFC wire and operate in a precision long magnetic gap. Front and rear magnetic venting not only reduces airflow and noise, but increases power handling and long term reliability. Meanwhile, massive motor assemblies offer no- compromise optimisation for each voice coil diameter.
The unique ‘Soft Dome’ technology was developed by ATC in 1976. Its arrival revolutionised professional studio monitoring. Remarkable today, as then, it remains the only mid-range device capable of giving ultimate performance.
The ‘Super Linear Technology’ found in all the Tower models is equally ground breaking. It has long been recognised that the detrimental effects of magnetic hysteresis is a significant factor in the production of distortion in drive units. With clever use of revolutionary materials developed for the communications industry, the problem has been solved for all time in the form of ATC’s SL drive units. They are unique not only in their ability to accurately reproduce piano, but also the precise manner in which they articulate male voices. This is hardly surprising given the reduction of third harmonic distortion by 10-15 dB between 100Hz and 3kHz.
The new ATC Tower Series presents a series of classic hand-built monitors in real wood veneers to match modern and traditional interiors, and are fully compatible with ATC subs and centre channels to form home cinema systems of unmatched quality.
